Suez Canal

The Suez Canal is the artificial waterway linking the Mediterranean and the Red Sea, giving shipping the shortest route between Europe and Asia without rounding Africa. Its southern approach runs through Bab el-Mandeb, so a blockage or a Red Sea security threat that reroutes traffic around the Cape of Good Hope adds days of transit and materially raises freight costs.
